My Summer Staff Experience: Rosalyn

Summers at Black Diamond Camp are lively, full of adventure, and packed with new experiences. As part of Summer Staff, I served by being the hands and feet of Christ in the counselor position. Though I served in both Group Camp and Day Camp, each day always began with a morning meeting devoted to prayer and preparation. With ready hearts, we set off to greet campers of all ages who were about to have the best week ever! From splashing ...

At the Feet of Jesus

At the Home of Martha and Mary“As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, ‘Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do ...

Jumping Into Abundance

At camp, my favorite activity is definitely the zipline. I love running the zipline, especially when I get to facilitate the crow’s nest. The crow’s nest position means you are at the top of the tree and are the person who is responsible for getting people safely attached to the zipline, talking them through the process, and providing the support needed for them to zip down. The crow’s nest sits at about 35 feet up and it’s amazing up there! ...

A Joyful Experience

As part of the Black Diamond Camp Internship, I have the privilege of helping prepare and put on The Lights of Christmas at Warm Beach Camp in Stanwood, Washington. I enjoy preparing for The Lights of Christmas because I get to help create an experience for people to make fun memories with friends and family. Serving the community this way brings me happiness as I get to see smiles on the faces of people who come and experience it all. ...

Love is Patient

Everything around us moves so quickly, especially now with the Christmas season in full swing. The holiday season can test our patience, at the grocery store, on the road, even at home with our family. We want our packages to be delivered on time and we want everything to be perfect. Why is it we let ourselves become so frustrated and angry during this season of love and giving? Paul gives us some great insight in the book of Romans ...

The Summer Staff Experience: Mya

My name is Mya Slakey and I worked as Activities Staff at Black Diamond Camp in 2019! While in this role, I helped facilitate the high ropes activities we have here at Camp, which also meant ensuring safety and a fun time for the campers. I grew up going to camps, so when I needed outdoor recreation & adventure experience hours for my college degree, I knew I wanted those hours to take place at a camp in a cool ...

A Summer with Year-round Impact

Our family began attending Black Diamond Camp in 2016 when our kids were entering first grade, making this last summer our sixth year attending Camp! We truly feel that Black Diamond Camp has become a second home for our kids and each year, they beg to come to more and more sessions. Through the Day Camp program, our kids make friends, play outdoors, and have fun. When they get home, they are tired from all the fun they had all ...

The Coffee Shop

Camp pairs well with a good cup of coffee! At Black Diamond Camp, we LOVE coffee, and it plays a big role in making Camp happen. So of course, the Coffee Shop is one of my favorite features here at Camp. The Coffee Shop is located in the Mt. Baker Dining Hall and is open at all mealtimes. Our menu consists of 4 signature lattes called: The Graham, Campfire, Sasquatch, and Black Bear, each of which vary in sweetness and ...

The Summer Staff Experience: Rachel

This past summer, I had the privilege to work for Black Diamond Camp as a counselor. Originally, I came to Black Diamond for the Internship Program, but after getting my first real taste of camping ministry, I wanted to stay for Summer Staff. Throughout the summer, I got to spend time with the most amazing campers and be surrounded by an amazing team. Not to mention, I got to run activities like the 3D-Wall (my personal favorite), the Zip-Line, and ...

Black Diamond Open House

The Black Diamond Open House, Saturday, September 24, was a great success, hosting over 100! Many had been guests this past summer, with a few new visitors to Black Diamond as well! It was a day full of sunshine, yummy food, and fun activities with the community. Everyone had the opportunity to tour the Camp, have some fun in the gym, and take a dip in the pool before heading home for the day. One of my favorite moments was ...

Growing Together

Sound Christian Academy brought 100 high school students for a few days at the end of August to help build connections among scholars for the new school year. They participated in several group development activities where students stepped out of their comfort zone to complete the 3D Web as well as the TP Shuffle; unique team building activities at Camp. The “Why”

Working at Camp or, in another ministry, can be a lot. It can feel like there is consistently something that wants our attention. We bounce from one place to another and have about a million thoughts that race through our minds of what has been done or what needs to get done. It’s pretty easy to get caught up in the rush of it all, or to go through each day as if it’s a checklist that needs to be ...

Everyone at Black Diamond Camp this summer was blessed to be around a camper just like that this summer, and his name is Royal. His happiness is so infectious that you can’t help but laugh or smile being around him. Having Royal and other kids just like him come to camp this summer was a ...

Final REWIND!

This summer truly has been crazy. We had awesome opportunities to serve groups, both returning or just starting their partnership with Black Diamond, and in a summer that finally felt close to back to normal, we had some amazing times. From dance parties throughout the night, to kickball chaos that was played in 98-degree weather! When I think of this summer and what it can be culminated down to, it would be our last night of Session 7 on our ...

Meet the Team – Mickey Slakey

My name is Mickey Slakey, and I found Black Diamond Camp in the spring of 2019, soon after I accepted Christ into my life. I worked as a counselor for the summer of ‘19 and loved every minute of the adventure! One of the biggest perks of camp ministry is witnessing campers grow in their relationships with Jesus. After camp that summer, I moved to Indianapolis, where I taught 3rd grade until the summer of 2022. I am thrilled to ...
