My Summer Staff Experience: Jenna

Hi! My name is Jenna. I first came to Camp many years ago as a camper and continued to serve as a part of the Service Team Program. This past summer I worked at Black Diamond Camp as a part of the Summer Staff team with Day Camp and Group Camp.

Group Camp is a summer program where churches bring their youth groups to Camp and we, as Summer Staff, serve as their counselors! Throughout these 4 to 5 day sessions, middle school/high school age campers participate in high rope activities such as the Zipline and the Giant Swing, as well as group development games, and of course, dance parties! Getting to know these kids, even if it’s just for a few days, and watching them make new friends, step out of their comfort zones, and learn more about Jesus was the most rewarding part of my summer!

My favorite part about being part of Summer Staff is the authentic relationships I built with my campers and fellow Summer Staff. This last summer, I met one of my best friends Liza Hubbard who was also a Group Camp counselor. We danced together at all the dance parties, got coffee on our days off, and had so many genuine conversations. So, when applications opened again, we were stoked to apply and spend another summer together!

If you’re thinking about applying for Summer Staff, do it! You will grow in your relationship with God, create so many memories, and create friendships that will last a lifetime!
