Summer Leadership Intro: Liza H

Hi! I am Liza Hubbard, I’m 20 years old and from Centralia, Washington. I was first introduced to Black Diamond Camp in 2018 at a Dare to Share event that was hosted onsite. After that I attended Group Camp for the next four summers. Being a camper, I loved every aspect that Camp had; from Bible Study and ziplining to dance parties and hanging with friends. After my last summer as a camper, I knew that the next step for me was to apply to be a counselor. This last summer, I worked as a Group Camp counselor! Now, this coming summer I will be one of the Group Camp Program Heads!

My favorite part of Camp is the community. Not only did the staff push me closer to Christ everyday but I was also able to meet some amazing people and make some lifelong friends. One of my favorite memories from Camp was singing and dancing to Taylor Swift with another counselor, Jenna Clifton, at the Group Camp dance parties. It was heartwarming to witness the campers freely expressing themselves, finding joy in dancing and singing. Along with that, establishing those initial connections and relationships with campers, leaders, Summer Staff, and full-time staff proved to be incredibly fulfilling. Camp feels like a second home to me, so as the end of the summer approached, I knew I would return as summer staff. Wanting to take on more responsibility than a counselor, I set my sights on becoming a Program Head for Group Camp. JJ Lara, the Group Camp Coordinator, encouraged me to pursue this opportunity.

This summer I am looking forward to growing in my faith, building lifelong friendships, and being able to grow in my leadership skills. I am excited to be able to have the opportunity to help grow the Group Camp program and be able to get a behind-the-scenes look at how Black Diamond Camp functions.

I am extremely excited to have another great summer!
