Dorm Style – Group Camp and Summer Camp

You will need bedding, including:

• Sleeping bags or XL ­twin size sheets and blankets.
• Pillow

What to Pack

Clothing

• T­-Shirts – Bring several that you don’t mind getting dirty. Please do not bring shirts with statements, logos, graphics, or pictures of companies, bands, or other entities that represent ideals that may be considered offensive.
• Shorts – Bring athletic/hiking shorts that you don’t mind getting dirty. Do not bring short shorts. You will be wearing harnesses, which will rub your skin if your shorts aren’t long enough.
• Shoes – Hiking/athletic shoes are necessary. Do not bring new shoes. Bring a back-up pair. If it rains, we’ll keep playing. Close­d-toed shoes are required. Do not bring flip­flops for your main shoe, but do bring them for around the dorm room and showers.
• Socks and Underwear – Bring extras of both. It’s Adventure Camp!
• Rainwear­ – A rain jacket/poncho will be the most important of these items.
• Hat / Bandana
• Swimsuit – We suggest bringing two swimsuits to rotate. You might get wet every day. You may also have to hike in your swimsuit at times. Ladies ­ One pieces or tankini (with full coverage). Shorts for swimming are also a good idea. No bikinis.
• Jacket / Long Sleeves – It gets cold in the mornings and evenings in the mountains!
• Jeans / Long Pants – For adventure and for staying warm in the mornings/evenings.
• Not So Nice Clothes – Please bring a few pairs of shoes and clothing that could get ruined. Each year, we have activities where you will get muddy, wet, painted, etc. Your shoes and clothes are likely to get wet and we want you to be as comfortable as possible.

Bathroom

• Toiletries – toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, soap…the usual.
• Tote or Toiletries Bag – To take your items to and from the shower.
• Towels – One for the shower and one for the lake.

Other Items

• Bible, Notepad, Pen
• Water bottles – One large water bottle. We have Nalgene Water Bottles for sale at our Camp Store.
• Flashlight or Headlamp
• Insect Repellant
• Backpack
• Spending Cash – You don’t have to have any for camp, but we do have a Camp Store and Coffee Shop if you’d like to buy something from those retail locations.
• Earplugs ­- If you’re a light sleeper.

What not to Pack

Please leave the following items at home:

• Walkie­ Talkies
• Knives or anything sharp
• Pets – Not even little cute pets.
• Tobacco Products
• Alcohol or Drugs
• Your Own Harness / Helmet
• Electronic Devices
• Fireworks

Camper Code of Conduct

Camper Code of Conduct will be covered in a sensitive and age appropriate manner during camp orientation. Our purpose in maintaining this code of conduct is to show that we are all here to build each other up and encourage one another in love at all times. As such, the following behaviors are not allowed at Black Diamond. If observed, campers are required to notify the camp director or a staff member immediately: ­

• Use or Possession of Alcohol, Drugs, or Tobacco
• Sexual Behavior ­of any kind
• Self­-Mutilation
• Eating Disorders ­
• Stealing or Lying ­
• Profanity ­or Inappropriate Language or Conversation ­
• Negative or Disrespectful Attitudes
• Skipping Activities or Sessions ­
• Bullying, Physical Abuse or Sexual Abuse ­
• Contraband Use or Possession
• Gossip ­or verbal abuse
• Keeping medications ­or failure to turn in or report medication

Abusive Behavior and Defiant Disobedience- Abusive behavior and defiant disobedience will NOT be tolerated and will be potential grounds for dismissal. This includes abusive behavior to self (drugs, alcohol, eating disorders, and self-­mutilation) or to others (bullying, fighting, and verbal abuse). If abusive behavior or defiant disobedience becomes apparent, please notify the camp director or a staff member immediately.

Sexual Misconduct or Abuse- Sexual misconduct or abuse will not be tolerated. Sexual misconduct or abuse will be grounds for dismissal and will require a meeting with the Director and notification of the Executive Director and Parents. If you observe sexual misconduct or abuse occurring, please notify the camp director or a staff member immediately.

Relationships- Black Diamond does not allow physical relationships between minors. All staff members will remain alert and vigilant for any signs of inappropriate conduct between minors. Youth of the opposite sex are not allowed to be alone together. Youth Campers are expected to not engage in sexual touching of any kind. ­Do your best to avoid and do not initiate kissing, frontal hugs, holding hands, back rubs, tickling, etc. No bullying, physical abuse or verbal harassment of any kind.

Camp Credit

Deposit funds for the purchase of snacks or merchandise.

Cell Phones / Devices Policy

There is no app for this. Stop, listen and look around. Nature is amazing! Enjoy it while you can. Please leave your cell phones and devices at home.

Campers LOVE to get mail! You can leave it with us when you drop off your camper. Or mail it, but just remember to send it a week ahead.

Payment Policy

• Group leaders and campers pay the same fee
• 25% deposit is due no later than two weeks following registration. Failure to do so will result is loss of reservation spots
• Full payment is due 7 days prior to the event
• Changes to ratios/numbers of guys/girls will be subject to availability at the time of the request
• Once sessions are full, changes are not able to be accommodated

Lost & Found

We strongly encourage Youth Leaders to prepare parents to help get their campers ready for camp well in advance of arriving on grounds.

Parent Communication Suggestions: Anticipate the new things that your camper might experience and be ready to help nurture any personal growth changes and maturing that may have resulted from their time at camp when they return home.

If they are unaccustomed to a lot of physical activity, prepare them for camp activities and adventures by slowly increasing their activities in the weeks leading up to camp and make sure they have had plenty of sleep before coming to camp.

It’s also possible that there are fears within both you and your child about their week away. By preparing early, you can help dispel those fears. Here are a few creative ways you can prepare your camper for the impact their week of camp is likely to have on them.

• If your son or daughter has never been away from home overnight without you, plan a weekend stay beforehand with a friend to give them a small taste of what it’s like.
• Acknowledge their fears and be overly reassuring that everything will be okay and that they will have a blast.
• Register for camp with a friend or relative and regularly have them over to talk about camp and allow the two to begin forming a bond and anticipate camp.
• Share stories about how much fun you had at summer camp as kid and how they are certain to be in for the time of their life.
• Build a general excitement about the week by regularly talking about it and telling friends and family about the exciting week your son or daughter has ahead of them this summer! Speak of it as though it is an accomplishment.

The ideas are endless, and you as a creative and concerned parent, will know how best to prepare your child for what could be one of the most memorable experiences of their childhood.
