A Chance to Serve

Hi! My name is Jenna Clifton, and I am 18 years old. I’m from Auburn, Washington and I’m currently an Intern at Black Diamond Camp. I have been a part of Black Diamond Camp for about 11 years as a camper, Service Team Member, Summer Staff, and now as an intern!

I have made so many fun memories, many of which are from my time as a Service Team member. If you don’t know, Service Team is a program for campers ages 15-18 to volunteer working behind the scenes at Camp while also being a camper. You spend 3 weeks of the summer doing meal cleans, shadowing the Day Camp program, and doing activities and team building.

In 2019, I was a camper in the Individual Camp Program and was approached by the Service Team leader, Kaelin Lara. One of my counselors had let her know I was interested in continuing my time at Camp and she let me know about Service Team. 2 weeks later I was back at Camp! My time as a Service Team member in 2019 truly was life changing. I learned the heart of Camp and was brought so much joy giving back to the programs I experienced as a camper.

One of my favorite memories from Service Team was getting to participate in the Group Camp Evening Experiences which are the big evening activities that tie into the messages and theme for the summer. In 2021 we had the opportunity to take part in the color war and it was a super fun bonding experience for all of us. I truly enjoyed each year and every different group of Service Team members that served alongside me. I created lifelong friendships and memories, and I’m so thankful for the experiences.

If you are thinking about signing up for Service Team, I highly recommend checking it out here.
