Summer Leadership Introduction: Preston

Hello, Black Diamond Camp (BDC) Blog! My name is Preston Haggerty, I am twenty-six years old, and I am from Kent, Washington. I grew up going to Camp back when BDC was known as Camp Berachah, and years later I returned in 2022 as Summer Staff. Then I was part of the 2022-23 internship program. My time at Black Diamond Camp has been amazing!

A little bit about me, I am a HUGE NERD. I love reading fiction and nonfiction alike. My favorite movie franchise is Star Wars. I love games, and even used to be a competitive Super Smash Bros player. My favorite thing about Camp is the friendships I have built, especially around things like campfires. My favorite activities to run are the Giant Swing, Black Light Dodgeball, and most of our Group Development courses.

One of my favorite memories at Camp so far has been working with the littles (ages 4-6) in Day Camp. They have me laughing all the time and are just filled with such joy! There’s no place like Camp, which is why I am returning this Summer as the Program Head for the Service Team program.

>For those who don’t know, Service Team is a free program where high schoolers can earn community service hours by helping at Camp, in addition to taking part in all of the activities happening throughout the summer. Not only do they work but they develop friendships that can last a lifetime. I am looking forward to leading this group of campers in learning what it means to have a servant’s heart.

I am looking forward to leading and serving our Summer Staff, Service Team, and campers this Summer!
