The “Why”

Working at Camp or, in another ministry, can be a lot. It can feel like there is consistently something that wants our attention. We bounce from one place to another and have about a million thoughts that race through our minds of what has been done or what needs to get done. It’s pretty easy to get caught up in the rush of it all, or to go through each day as if it’s a checklist that needs to be accomplished. We can easily lose touch with our “why”.

In these times, when we lose touch with our “why,” God is placed on the back burner. We look to Him occasionally to make sure He’s there, but He’s not on the forefront of our minds. Throughout our days, we get so distracted that we forget the magnitude of joy that comes from dwelling with God. You see, God doesn’t belong on the back burner because He is our “why.” His love compels us to get up each morning and serve others even when it’s hard.

“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.” – Psalm 51:10-12 (NIV)

When we invite the King into every aspect of our lives, we need to be expectant that He’s going to show up and remind us of who He is. The key is, to remember to invite Him!

So, let’s take a breath, slow down and remember the “why” and find encouragement in His truth and provision.
