My Summer Staff Experience: Rosalyn

Summers at Black Diamond Camp are lively, full of adventure, and packed with new experiences. As part of Summer Staff, I served by being the hands and feet of Christ in the counselor position.

Though I served in both Group Camp and Day Camp, each day always began with a morning meeting devoted to prayer and preparation. With ready hearts, we set off to greet campers of all ages who were about to have the best week ever! From splashing in the pool, trying the rappel wall, and even going down the zipline, campers enjoyed endless opportunities for adventure.

One of the most rewarding things about being a part of Summer Staff was the relationships that were built throughout the summer. It was amazing to walk alongside campers, group leaders, and my fellow staff members and hear the different stories and walks that brought us to the same place. It was beautiful to see, despite these different stories, we could come together and worship the Lord in an environment away from the distractions of the world.

I came to Black Diamond Camp from Oklahoma, having never been to the state of Washington before. Heading into the unknown was scary and I had a lot of anxiety leading up to the summer. A few weeks in, I remember seeing the joy campers had by simply being in God’s creation and thinking, “lives are being changed here, and I want to be a part of it.” It’s crazy to look back on that moment and know that despite the scariness of it all, I was exactly where God wanted me to be!
