My Summer Staff Experience: Mateo
Hello! My name is Mateo Cuadros, I am 20 years old and am from Washington state! Last summer I worked at Black Diamond Camp as a Summer Staff Counselor. I spent the summer counseling for both the middle school/high school aged program, Group Camp, and the middle school program, Teen Camp, where I led Bible studies, ran activities, and promoted group development through team building initiatives.
Before coming to Camp, I was looking for a summer job. When I found Black Diamond Camp, I was very interested the mission statement, as I really wanted to help kids grow closer to Jesus and closer to their fellow campers. Every summer camp offers the ability to run activities, but only Black Diamond Camp offered the opportunity for ministry!
Black Diamond Camp offers opportunities that you can’t find anywhere else. At Camp, you have the opportunity to build community and show the love of Christ to people who have never experienced God before. The job may be difficult, but there is nothing more rewarding than seeing God work within the lives of the younger generation.
Throughout the summer, I felt very supported by my fellow counselors and program leads. When I experienced difficult days, they were able to pick me up, give me encouragement, and help me keep going!
The most rewarding part of working at Camp is the altar call night of Group Camp. Even when I had a difficult week with my group, seeing at least one camper give their life to Christ made all the hardship worth it!
