5 Depart BD blog Day in the Life

A Day in the Life of a Day Camper

No two days at Black Diamond are the same! Come along with us and learn about the typical – but never ordinary – day in the life of a Day Camper.

Before we start, let’s talk about who’s who at Black Diamond Day Camp:

  • Campers: Local kids, ages 5-12, who love to have fun!
  • Counselors: College-aged Christian adults, carefully screened and selected, to serve our campers all summer long. They’re stellar role models, and they love to have fun, too!

Ready? Let’s go!

9-9:15 AM – Arrival

Hellos, high-fives, and big smiles await your camper at Monday morning check-in. It’s a chance to meet our energetic counselors and send your kid off for a great day!

Safety is a priority here at Black Diamond, so we require all parents and guardians to present their ID at every pick-up throughout the week.

If you need extended morning care, we’ve got you covered! For an additional charge, campers can arrive as early as 6 a.m. and enjoy extra games, activities, and breakfast in our Dining Hall. Otherwise, we’ll see you around 9!

1 Morning Chaos BD blog Day in the Life

9:15 AM – Morning Chaos

Morning Chaos is an exciting, chapel-like experience where everyone comes together to set their hearts and minds on Jesus before the day begins. We sing, dance, play games, and explore Biblical truths through object lessons. Morning Chaos takes place in our Mount Si building, just across from the Dining Hall.

Swimming Pool– Come swim in the super cool heated large indoor pool!

10 AM – Pool

Next up… swimming! Every morning at 10, our campers grab their favorite pool floatie, or the hand of their best friend, and splash into the waters of our indoor pool. Lifeguards are always on duty, and for additional safety, our counselors are cross-trained as lifeguards, too.

If your camper cannot swim, or just isn’t feelin’ it that day, they can choose another super fun (and supervised) activity like gaga ball or sand volleyball.

12 Noon – Lunch

By noon, we’ve all worked up an appetite! So we’re off to the Dining Hall, to enjoy a family-style meal. What’s a family-style meal? It’s where campers and counselors sit down and serve one another, in a fun and friendly, please-pass-the-rolls kind of way.

Our Dining Hall is proud to be a nut-free facility, and we’re happy to offer gluten-free meal options at an additional fee. After lunch, we have a short Bible study, before moving on to afternoon activities!

3 Activities BD blog Day in the Life
1 PM & 2 PM – Activities

Swimming is an everyday thing, but our 1 and 2 PM activities rotate throughout the week, so campers can experience it all! During this time, we might rappel, make arts and crafts, try our hand at BB guns, slingshots, and archery, or marvel in God’s creation on the banks of our beautiful creek.

We have tons of activities at Black Diamond, and they’re all designed to be age- and skill- appropriate. For example, while our 5-year-olds rappel an 8-foot wall, older campers can take on a wall twice that height.

3 PM – Snack Time

Three o’clock is Snack Time! Our campers are provided with a yummy snack (on us) and some free time, where they can visit our camp store or just hang out. FYI: You can purchase Camp Credit for your child so they don’t have to bring cash!

4 Activities BD blog Day in the Life

3:30 PM – Wrap Up

When 3:30 rolls around, it’s time to wrap things up! We go back to Mount Si, where we started our day, to rest a bit, recite our memory verse, and reflect on all the good things we’ve learned and experienced together!

4:15-4:30 PM – Depart for the Day

At 4:15, we start saying our goodbyes. Departure works just like Arrival, and while we wait, there’s still time for fun at the gaga ball pit and playground.

Don’t forget – we check parent/guardian IDs at every pick-up! And extended afternoon care is available at an additional cost until 6:30.

Wanna sign up for Day Camp 2019? There’s still time!
